Hello guys.
I have been working on of my projects lately for my company’s client, a movie-poster. In due course I was left to work with 3.9GB PSB files which happen to occupy approximately 40 GB of scratch disk during the active workflow. I got my PC geared up with 2GB dedicated graphics memory and 3GB RAM but nothing seemed to be handling the files smoothly.
Today, I found a short podcast by Bert Monroy who explained to work with big photoshop files. He was working with a PSD file that takes 11.6GB in rasterized form. But he was able to work on the file as if he was editing in real time.
Now the trick to do that is pretty simple. By default, any document importing/ placing settings is set to be in 8 bit channel. So, all we need to do is go to Image>Mode> 16 Bits/Channel or 32 Bits/Channel.
I hope this solves all your problems in handling large files.
